Asexual Reproduction: Chip Budding

  Propgation Method: Asexual Chip Budding

Asexual propagation is a popular method of reproducing trees. The photo to your left shows a single Sweet gum under stock. The eyelet or chip bud is cut from a sweet gum cultivar.  This cultivar eyelet is inserted into the under stock and then wrapped with a thin piece of specialized propagation plastic. After 30 days the plastic should be removed.

After the 30 days the plastic is removed. Although results will vary, within one to two weeks growth should result, As you can see this Sweet gum cultivar eyelet has "stuck" and is beginning to produce growth.
